Kokopelli

Kokopelli, the humpbacked flute player, is a petroglyth figure from the Anasazi (prePueblo) period. Legend says that he was a happy, even mischievous character who brought the news from pueblo to pueblo. Today, he is a symbol of good luck, good news and fertility.

The Heartline Bear

bearThere are many positive connotations of the bear in Native American lore.  The bear is respected for its power and strength and also for healing abilities.  It is often referred to as a token of good luck and for the Navajos symbolizes the entity of the "Protector". The heartline running through the center of the bear signifies the spiritual breath of the animal.

Kachina

Spirit guides used in Pueblo Kiva religious ceremonies.  Each matrilineal clan has a specific Kachina associated with it used to teach the stories of the Pueblo

Navajo Yei Figure

indianYei is actually the abbreviated word for the mythical holy figure in Navajo mythology known as YeiBeiChei. There are many Yeis each possessing different healing powers. The female is depicted with a square head, the male with a round head. It is during healing ceremonies or .sings" that the Yeis do their most important work. The medicine man etches images of the Yeis into the sand on the floor of the sick person's hogan. The ailing individual then sits upon this site and the illness is drawn out of the body into the sand. The medicine man removes the illness permanently from the dwelling as he scoops the sand and tosses it into the four directions of the wind.
